Called and had a replacement shipped out (a painless procedure). Then after a bit more reading, found it was porbably a USB 2.0 windows and via chipset issue. Then tried a firmwire upgrade (but this failed), in fact the "upgrade" button never came up. Does not show up in BIOS….. Source

Doesn't matter if they are one on FW800 and one on FW400, still shuts down. I have been running this with Windows XP, and have used both the USB and Firewire connections without any problems.
